Twenty one public servants arrested on bribery charges in past seven months

The Bribery Commission has arrested 21 public servants during the past seven months for taking bribes for different tasks.

The Bribery Commission had conducted 17 raids during this period and arrested the suspects. Among the suspects, are a school principal, four Police sergeants, a PC, a Police Inspector, two SIs, a Divisional Secretary, a Grama Niladhari and a Director of Government firm.

These facts and figures have been confirmed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) Director (Investigations) SSP Padmini Weerasooriya. “Therefore, all Grama Niladharies of the Kurunegala District should refrain from soliciting hush money from the public at any cost, said Kurunegala District Senior Divisional Secretary W.E.Jayathilake speaking at a meeting of the GNs of the Kurunegala District held at the Bingiriya Youth Training centre, Kurunegala yesterday.
