The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVF) is confident that they could restart their domestic tournaments once again during the final quarter of this year.

As many as four high profile tournaments were postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the SLVF are exploring the possibilities of conducting these National Level events during the period of October, November and December.

Top priority would be given to the President’s Gold Cup, ‘Munchee’ National Championship (Amateur and Super League), Junior National Under-23 Championship and the National Beach Volleyball Championship, a high ranking official of the SLVF told the Daily News yesterday.

Meanwhile, the SLVF has decided to cancel the most prestigious Inter-Schools Volleyball Tournament from the calendar this year.

This decision was taken since the approval has not been granted by the Education and the Health Ministries to conduct any Inter-Schools competitions because of the prevailing situation in the country.

The SLVF has also decided to disband the National Beach Volleyball Pool (Men’s and Women’s) and have requested the players and coaches to return home until resume practices.

The National Beach Volleyball Championship was to serve as a trial to select the players for the Asian Beach Games which was initially scheduled to be held in Sanya, China from November 28 to December 6. But since the Olympic Council of Asia and the China National Olympic Committee have decided to postpone the Games to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Pool was disbanded.

Therefore, the Federation hopes to stage the National Beach Volleyball Championships in December with the aim of preparation for the Asian Beach Games next year.
