Elpitiya Magistrate Gayan Meegahage remanded the suspect who was produced before the Elpitiya Magistrate on August 24 following a raid carried out by officers of the Organized Crime Unit on information received regarding drugs and crime.
The suspect was identified as Ruppage Amila Rangana alias Sudu Amila, a 20-year-old resident of Omantha, Ganegoda. During the raid, a group of STF officers found a shotgun, 12 bore firearms, six rounds of ammunition, a T-56 ammunition, 23 live grenades, three swords and ammunition hidden in his house and buried in his backyard.
Police reported to court that the suspect was arrested with three uniforms.
Police investigations have revealed that the suspect was involved in a number of crimes in the area.
Although a T-56 ammunition and a magazine were found, no T-56 firearm was found and police are investigating whether he was in possession of such a firearm.
Elpitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
