Five Star drugs haul

Two arrested with heroin, 5,600 narcotic pills:

Two suspects were arrested at a Five Star hotel in Colombo yesterday and 02 grams and 400mg of heroin and over 5600 narcotic pills were recovered from their possession. The raid was conducted based on a tip-off received by the Central Division Vice Squad.

Addressing a media briefing yesterday, Police Media Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne said the intelligence units had conducted a raid and arrested one suspect who was in possession of the heroin and 5500 narcotic pills.

Based on information gathered the Police had arrested another suspect and recovered another 100 narcotic pills.

The Police Spokesman added that this racket was carried out targeting the Colombo night clubs and these racketeers were based at these Five Star hotels and supplying narcotic pills to persons who frequented the night clubs.

It had also been revealed that a single narcotic pill is sold for a price between Rs.2500 to Rs.5000.

Police Intelligence Units have also found that this drug and narcotic pills racket is being operated under the directives of a drug racketeer currently in prison. The newest mode of importing these drugs and narcotic pills into the country has been found to be through courier companies and the drugs are sent as parcels. The main target market for these drugs are Five Star hotels, nightclubs and high end parties.

The raid is part of the law enforcement authorities’ crackdown on narcotics on the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Police have also arrested several Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) personnel who had links with drug barons and facilitated the smuggling of narcotics in to the country. Several senior prison officials were also found to have provided mobile phones and luxury facilities to some drug kingpins serving prison terms.
