Overwhelming victory for SLPP definite – Dullas Alahapperuma

An overwhelming victory for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) at the upcoming General Election is definite, Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister and Matara District Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) leader Dullas Alahapperuma said.

He was speaking at a SLPP rally in Pahalavitiyala, Thihagoda recently.

The Minister said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will provide a sound education for children. “The country has only 373 national schools and the number will be increased to 1,000,” he said.

“The People deserve lasting peace and prosperity. A party with clear vision has to be in power to achieve them. The United National Party (UNP) is divided into two factions. They have no future plans to develop the country since they have internal rifts among them. Many of their stalwarts are leaving the party and rallying round the SLPP now,” Minister Alahapperuma said. The Minister said that modern technology and skills should be provided with the youth for them to find jobs. “The Matara District is poor and the rate of unemployment is high. The previous regime did not address the pressing issues of youth in the district. The government will take measures to enroll 30,000 jobless graduates to the Education Ministry and another batch of advanced level qualified young men and women will be recruited as teaching assistants,” he said.

The Minister stated that necessary steps have been initiated to set up a 100,000 labour force with jobless young men and women and school leavers. “They will be given six-months training in sectors they have selected, and then they will be absorbed to the state sector. Unlike the good governance regime, the government led by Gotabaya Rajapaksa will treat all graduates equally. They will not be discriminated on whether they have internal or external degrees,” he said.

“The lack of a majority in Parliament for the government has been an obstacle. No funds can be allocated even for sustainable development projects in the country as a result,” the Minister said.

He said that in the President’s vision of Progress and Prosperity, Sri Lanka is marching in the right direction. Thihagoda Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Nirmal Samasinhe and several others spoke.
