Is ‘Angoda Lokka’ feigning death? CID to probe

Reports of notorious underworld kingpin Lasantha Perera alias ‘Angoda Lokka’ being killed by poisoning in India are being investigated, Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne said.

He said that while it has been reported that he had been poisoned in India, these reports had not been confirmed so far.

Addressing a media briefing held at the Mirihana Police yesterday (23) he said, “Angoda Lokka is a wanted criminal and the police had received information that he fled the country and was hiding overseas. We have reported to court regarding several cases against him. Although there are claims that he had been poisoned and killed in India, these reports have not been verified and confirmed as yet.We have initiated measures to verify these claims and we will confirm this report once we have received verified details. If his death is scientifically verified, then we will take further measures regarding cases against him.”

The Police Media Spokesman said that these reports regarding his death could be fabricated in order to allow him to change his appearance and return to the country under a new disguise and engage in criminal activities or to allow him to escape to another country without being detected. Therefore, he said that the police is observing the situation carefully and will accept reports of his death only if it is confirmed without any doubt.
