Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil festival begins on July 25

The 25-day historic Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil festival will commence with the flag hoisting ceremony on July 25.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had advised temple authorities of the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil to allow more devotees to view its festival in keeping with COVID-19 health guidelines.

According to sources, over a recent phone conversation, the Prime Minister had urged Temple Manager Sayanthan Kumaradas to allow more devotees without restricting their number to 50.

The Board of Trustees of the temple has requested the number to be increased to 300.

Devotees, however, have to follow health guidelines by wearing a mask, maintaining social distance and being vigilant of any symptoms before entering it and in the temple.

Unlike earlier, places distributing free meals and other refreshments will be halted. The Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC) urges shop owners who put up makeshift shops and stalls during the festival to refrain from installing such this year.
