‘Elect educated, honest candidates’

Former minister and SLPP candidate for Kalutara district Mahinda Samarasinghe appealed to voters in the district to elect educated, honest candidates to Parliament to strength the hands of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to form a powerful government after the General Election.

“Otherwise, the entire country would fall into the doldrums,” he said, speaking at an election meeting in the Panadura electorate on Friday.

Addressing Executive Committee members of the Panadura SLPP, he said the country and its citizens are at present facing a series of acute problems. To find solutions, a powerful government must take over the administration of the country. Therefore, leaving aside all differences, the citizens must unite and elect candidates to form a powerful government at the forthcoming General Election.

Many development projects introduced to the Kalutara district by the Mahinda Rajapaksa government had been abandoned. If the voters in the Kalutara district elect candidates of the SLPP in the Kalutara sistrict, the abandoned projects could be implemented for the benefit of the people, Samarasinghe said.

SLPP General Secretary for the Panadura electorate Harsha Gaya Sri Dilshan said the supporters of the Panadura Sri Lanka Freedom Party Balamandalaya had come forward to support Mahinda Samarasinghe because the SLFP is defunct.
