Sri Lanka Navy yesterday launched the Maritime Doctrine of Sri Lanka (MDSL) at the Navy Headquarters under the auspices of Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.

The Navy went on to compile this capstone publication as a guide to understanding the unique nature of the SLN’s maritime power and the way in which it can be applied for the national interests.

The Navy Commander highlighted at the launch how the MDSL would shape the broad contours of employment of maritime power and how the Navy goes about nurturing a stable environment at sea. This will become a vital common frame of reference to rest of the interested partners across the military as well, he said. The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Director Generals and a host of senior officers from the Naval Headquarters were present. A copy of the MDSL was presented over to Defence Secretary Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne by The Navy Commander at the Defence Ministry.
