Ranugge Commission worsened Postal issues, Premier told

The S Ranugge Commission recommendations during the Good Governance government worsened the issues of the postal staff due to the flaws of the Public Administration 6/2006 circular, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was told yesterday (2).

The Prime Minister was told this by the members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Postal Trade Union during a meeting at Temple Trees.

The Prime Minister pledged that the issues would be addressed following discussions at the Cabinet.

The trade union members told the Prime Minister that owing to the informal decisions taken at the Postal Department in accordance with the Public Administration 6/2006 circular and outside the circular provisions, the staff faced grave injustice.

They told the Prime Minister that although it had been finalised to formulate a new Service Constitution, the Good Governance Government in 2015 did not implement it. At the end of their tenure, they brought the matter before the S Ranugge Commission and its recommendations worsened the situation, they said.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa promised them that he would discuss the matter at the Cabinet and solve them.
