Colombo Port employees launch strike

Employees of Colombo port have launched a continuous strike campaign from today against the privatisation of the Eastern terminal of Colombo port.

The strike campaign is being carried with the participation of all trade unions of Colombo port.

The protesters allege that three Granty Cranes have been imported and would be installed at the Eastern terminal.

“The decision to carry out the strike was backed by all trade unions unanimously demanding to roll back the decision of privatising the Eastern Terminal, which is the only terminal that can cater to the huge ships," a trade union activist said.
