Football players with a Sri Lankan origin who are based in foreign countries will be eligible to represent Sri Lanka if they are granted dual citizenship according to the President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka Anura de Silva.

There are eight Sri Lankan players who are residing abroad who are keen to represent the country in Football but they will have to obtain dual citizenship and the necessary documents have been already submitted to the authorities.

They will be allowed to join the Sri Lanka National Pool which is undergoing training under the watchful eyes of new national coach Amir Alagic at the Baddagana football complex. Two players Mervyn Hamilton and Waseem Razeek have already played for the country while Reez Darren, Ryan Darren, Jeddah Assen, Tokodo Francis and Musahir Razeek, have expressed their desire to play for Sri Lanka once they obtain dual citizenship, said the Football Chief.

Incidentally Tokodo Francis has been living in Sri Lanka since 2012 and their inclusion in the Sri Lanka National Soccer team will be a tremendous boost as the Sri Lanka team prepare for their Asia Cup qualifying matches against Korea, (North and South) and Lebanon in October 2020.
