In the Kandy district, 64,416 postal ballot applications have been filed for the upcoming general election, said Kandy district election officer Tissa Karunaratne.
He said that of this number, 54,052 applications were accepted and 10,367 were rejected.
Postal voting applications were issued at 64 points in the Kandy District Secretariat premises and around 320 officers have been deployed.
Karunaratne said that 435 candidates from 17 political parties and 12 independent groups are contesting in the Kandy district.
According to the 2019 electoral register, 1,129,100 persons have been eligible to cast their votes in the Kandy District.
