Centenarian social worker passes away

P.M. Kusuma Weerasinghe, a well-known social worker and retired teacher from Athurugiriya, has passed away at the age of 101 years.

Weerasinghe had taught at the Badulla Uva Maha Vidyalaya and Colombo Maha Bodhi Vidyalaya. She was married to Steven Govinna, who predeceased her; and was the mother of Udaya and Tissa Govinna, who are currently living in Melbourne, Australia.

Weerasinghe’s remains lay at her house; No. 88, Borella Road, Athrurugiriya.

Her funeral will take place at the Pore Cemetery on Wednesday, at 4:00 p.m.
