Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed a 14th-century palace in Kurunegala to be converted into a museum.

The estimated cost for this project stands at Rs.350 million, and the architectural plans for it have already been finalised. The construction work under it is to be carried out by the Urban Development Authority (UDA), under the supervision of the Archaeological Department.

The Premier had also instructed the renovation of another 200-year-old archaeological site that is found within the palace premises.

An information centre on the Kurunegala Era is also to be set up alongside this projec; and the footpath to the Athugala Rock, which is also found in close proximity to the palace, is to be renovated as well.
