The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) candidate for Gampaha district, representing the Dompe electorate, Vernon Guneratne launched his election policy statement and programme of work to develop Dompe on Friday amidst a gathering of the Maha Sangha.

At the event held at his residence in Dompe, the Maha Sangha from over 90 temples participated, Guneratne explained that his programme to develop Dompe under a 10 point agenda was prepared with the objective of improving the living standards of the people and developing the economy.

“This includes taking measures to uplift education, empower women, improve health facilities and sports, provide housing facilities for the needy, provide assistance for ranaviru families, uplift facilities in religious places, combat crime and create job opportunities in the Dompe electorate,” the candidate said.

Guneratne said his programme of work has been prepared after carefully studying the information obtained through consultations with the public, experts in many sectors, religious leaders and various organisations over a number of months and it was not merely a promissory note but a reality that can and will be fulfilled if he is elected to the Legislature. Ven. Lunugama Sumanarathana Thera delivering an anusasana recalled how Guneratne, a highly respectable and educated person from the area, had helped people in Dompe during the COVID –19 lockdown.

The Thera recalled how Guneratne distributed dry rations among the low-income earners, distributed vegetable seeds for cultivations, held medical and blood donation camps and engaged in numerous other welfare programmes including helping the temples and other religious places.

Meanwhile Prof. Nawagamuwe Revatha Thera said that a politician’s service to the people was most needed when they were in distress and Guneratne had been able to do his duty by the people in Dompe when they were in difficulty during the COVID–19 outbreak.

The Thera while noting that a parliamentarian has not represented the Dompe electorate for the past 19 years, said that in Vernon Guneratne, the people in the electorate have the opportunity this time to elect a highly educated person who has not lost the common touch, to develop Dompe.
