UNHRC calls for investigation on ‘Karuna Amman’

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), in a twitter message on Thursday, called for an investigation on former LTTE Commander and Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, alias ‘Karuna Amman’, over the recruitment of child soldiers for the LTTE.

The UNHRC made this call with reference to his recent statement over the killing of 2,000 to 3,000 troops in Elephant Pass during the civil war.

“We note that ‘Karuna Amman’ is being questioned for his alleged past crimes. He should also be investigated for wholesale recruitment of child soldiers, a crime under international law.

“Accountability should apply to everyone,” the UNHRC tweeted.

The former Deputy Minister, on Thursday, gave a seven-hour statement to the CID over his alleged statement.
