International Day of Yoga celebrated:

In the celebration of Sixth International Day of Yoga, which fell on June 21, at the Education Ministry of the Northern Province, the Consulate General of India in Jaffna also celebrated the day on June 24 at Tellipalai Durga Devi Magalir Illam, Jaffna.

The programme began with the screening of a message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was followed by a documentary titled ‘Spirit of Yoga’.

Swami Rishi Thondanathan of the Hawaii Saiva Madam led the programme with an invocation. School Principal Mrs. Ananthasayanan, founder and President of Sivapoomi Trust Dr. Aru Thirumurugan and Consul General Balachandran addressed the gathering.

Yoga Instructor Suriyakumar demonstrated the yoga asanas in which 75 students and school officials participated, maintaining social distancing norms.

The Consul General and other dignitaries gave away prizesto the winners of the essay and art competitions conducted by the school on behalf of the Consulate on the theme of yoga.

Following were the winners of the essay competition: Poologam Selvathiamma, Rajeswaran Sharmila and Jegatheeswaran Thenila.

Following were the winners of the art competition: Ananthavarathan Lokitha, Ruban Trisha and Sasikumar Mathusha. Consolation prizes were also been given away to 21 other participants of these competitions.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by P. Selvathiamma, a student of the hotel.
