Three Policemen interdicted for graft

Three police officers including a Sub Inspector attached to the Aranayaka Police who were arrested for soliciting a bribe of Rs.60 000 to tamper with evidence were interdicted yesterday. The police officers had tampered with evidence to reduce the number of alcohol bottles which were seized by them during the raid. Accordingly although 80 bottles were found, the officers had tampered with the evidence to make it appear as though only 25 bottles were found in the suspect’s possession.

Accordingly, a Sub-Inspector Rathnayake, and two Sergeants Chandana and Arunashantha who were attached to the Aranayaka Police Station were interdicted and investigations are taking place on the directive of the Kegalle SSP.
