Arugambay prepares for new tourist arrivals

Following the assurance given by Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, hoteliers in Arugambay in the East are preparing to recommence their business with hopes and enthusiasm.

Similarly, restaurant owners, tourists and safari vehicle drivers, guides, trishaw owners, handlooms and textiles owners, handicrafts experts and employees of all other categories connected to the tourism industry too are preparing themselves to greet tourists coming from various parts of the island.

With the opening of hotels in Arugambay, awareness programs were carried out organized by the Department of Health on Tuesday. Pottuvil Medical Officer of Health Dr. A M. Abdul Samad addressing the hoteliers including owners of guest house and home stay stressed the importance of adhering to the guidelines and instructions given by the Government.

He said one should not come to a decision that Covid 19 is over and the public should not neglect guidelines. He said that hoteliers should ensure that hand wash is available at the entrance of the hotel, and wearing a mask and following social distance is always observed. Public Health Inspectors will make regular inspections and those who are not following these safety measures would be severely dealt with.

President of the Chamber Tourism and Industry of Sri Lanka A M Jaufer said that opening of both the Bandaranaike International Airport for tourists is welcome news for tourism and also Arugambay will have a good number of tourist, as Mattala International Airport is only three hours away from Arugambay.

“This is a big boom to Arugambay tourism. Opening of airports of Batticaloa and Jaffna too would benefit tourism in these areas.”
