Jayasinghe twins were top class hockey players

It is rare to find twin Brothers like Gamini & Tissa Jayasinghe, Old boys of Dharmaraja College,Kandy climbing the ladder of success and they excelled in sports in School specially in Hockey, Cricket & Athletics. Younger Brother Tissa was an International Hockey Coach who followed the FIH Course(Federation of International Hockey) in 1999 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He coached the National Women’s Hockey team that toured Thailand in 1996 and officiated at the Hockey Nationals from 1978 to 1990. Tissa also represented State Services Hockey team that toured Malaysia and Singapore in 1996. He is a Cricketer too and serving as the Vice-President of the Kandy District Cricket Association for a number of years.

Gamini, the elder brother, led the Champion State Services Hockey team to victory at the National Hockey Championships and played as centre-forward and also served as the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation. He was the Treasurer of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka for 15 consecutive years.

Both twins joined the Prisons Dept. together as Jailors and both became the Chief Jailors and in the 37 years of their service they were promoted to A.S.P., S.P and S.S.P. and finally became the Commissioners of Prisons. Elder brother Gamini has a Masters Degree in Sociology while the other brother Tissa is holding a Masters Degree in Criminalogy. Before retirement Gamini became the Commissioner of Skilled Development & Rehabilitation and Tissa became the Commissioner of Operations, Intelligence and Security and they retired in the year 2018

After retirement Gamini introduced Teq Ball using a Football for the game and he became the President of the TEQ Ball Association while Tissa Jayasinghe was appointed as the President of the Old Boys Union of Dharmaraja College,Kandy and he is quite interested in improving Sports and other extra curricular activities of the School.

Both Brothers have stated to the correspondent that being honest and duty conscious has made them to be in these Positions and that they found time to get involved in all kinds of Sports to keep themselves fit.
