Recoveries rise to 1562


Fourteen patients who had earlier tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) were discharged from hospitals during the last 48 hours bringing the total recoveries to 1562, according to the Epidemiology unit of the Ministry of Health.

Accordingly, five individuals who were seeking treatment at the Hambantota District General Hospital, three at the National Institute of Infectious disease, two from Welikanda Base Hospital, Kattankudy base hospital and Minuwangoda Base Hospital were discharged the day before.

However 40 new cases of the virus were confirmed yesterday bringing the total cases in the country to 1991. Out of the 40 new cases, many of them are said to be returnees from overseas, including 11 individuals who returned from the United States. There are presently 418 patients who are being treated while 30 others who are suspected to have contracted the virus are under medical observation.

Fourteen persons who had tested positive for the virus had recovered from the virus by this morning, raising the total coronavirus recoveries to 1562.
