Wedding guests to be increased to 200

UPDATE:

The Government has directed its attention to increase the number of guests allowed to attend weddings and other functions up to 200, said Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

At a meeting with Sri Lanka Reception Halls and Caterers’ Association on Tuesday (23) Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that the relevant proposal has been submitted to the Presidential Task Force on Controlling the COVID-19 Outbreak.

Reception owners claimed that the 100 guest limit imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic is insufficient, as they incur large losses due to the high costs incurred to organize weddings.

The representatives of the Union informed the Minister that catering services, Photographers and other wedding service providers are highly inconvenienced. Minister Ranatunga said that he had already discussed the matter with the Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe and necessary steps will be taken.

The food suppliers also pointed out that the Government is less supportive to their industry. They claimed that they had not received any concessions announced by the Government under the programme to provide relief to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister responded that food suppliers registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) will receive concessions. The Minister also invited the unregistered caterers to register with the SLTDA while stating that registration facilities are available online.
