Protest at Chilaw labour office

A group of workers staged a protest near the Chilaw labour office on Monday (22) demanding that the government should look into the loss of their jobs and wages.

The protestors claimed that they had not received salaries for several months and had not received any EPF money for a year. They claimed that the Chilaw labour office is responsible for the issue.

The head of the Chilaw labour office said that information could not be given to the media as the head of Colombo has requested not to provide any information. He further said that if any information is needed the head of Colombo must be contacted. The workers have been employed in a garment factory and had lost their jobs now. Several products and machinery have been shifted from the factory, they said.

The protest lasted nearly three hours and police have been deployed at the location.
