‘Rifkhan Bathiudeen helped suicide bomber flee country’

It was revealed at the Presidential Commission investigating into the Easter Sunday attacks that Former Minister Rishard Bathiudeen’s brother Rifkhan Bathiudeen has helped suicide bomber Saharan Hashim flee the country in the aftermath of clash that took place at the Alliar junction in Kaththankudy in 2017. A Senior official of intelligence service giving evidence before the commission on June 22 said Rifkhan Bathiudeen has helped the Sharan Hashim flee the country even after court issued notice on him.

The witness who is now holding a senior position in the Sri Lanka Army was a director of the Intelligence service and the commission requested the media personnel not to divulge his name .

He told the commission that the suspect has fled to India on boat from Mannar and he has stayed in Kashmir. The witness said that the suspect had arrived in the island by December 2018.

He said that steps were taken to make the former Army Commander Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake aware about this situation. The witness also informed the commission that the then chief of intelligence services and the Secretary of Defence were also informed about him

He said that former Defence Secretary nor the intelligence chief had discussed this information
