Sanchi Stupa to re-open on July 5

The sacred Sanchi Stupa located in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India will be re-opened to local and foreign devotees from July 5, Sanchi Chetiyagiri Vihara Chief Incumbent Ven. Banagala Wimalatissa Thera said.

The Sanchi sacred area has been shut down for the last few months due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Ven. Wimalatissa Thera said that Indian Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel during his recent visit to the Sanchi sacred area had proposed to re-open the Sanchi Stupa on July 5.

He said that Minister Prahlad Singh Patel has promised to provide all facilities including hand washing and the checking of temperature of devotees before they enter the sacred area.

He also extended an invitation to all Sri Lankan devotees to visit the Sanchi Stupa and assured them of their safety during the pilgrimage.

The Minister also said that Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India will be re-opened shortly by strictly adhering to the health guidelines, giving an opportunity for Sri Lankan devotees to make their pilgrimages.
