More Sri Lankans stranded in USA arrive

A group of Sri Lankans stranded in the United States was brought back to the country yesterday morning (23).

Airport sources said a chartered Emirates Airline flight landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) around 4.00 am with more than 200 Sri Lankans. The returnees were flown back via the Dubai International Airport.

The returnees were subject to Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests and later sent to quarantine.

Meanwhile, on Monday (22) the Trump administration extended a ban on green cards issued outside the United States until the end of the year and added many temporary work visas to the freeze, including those used heavily by technology companies and multinational corporations. The administration cast the effort as a way to free up jobs in an economy reeling from the coronavirus.

A senior official who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity predicted it will open up to 500,000 jobs for Americans.
