SJB’s new alliance a good sign: Kiriella

Forming a new alliance is a good sign, and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has a long way to go with its Leader, Sajith Premadsa, MP Lakshman Kiriella said. He said that at least 25 MPs from the North and East would support to establish an SJB government, and that the remaining number of seats would be fulfilled by the South.

“Twenty-nine MPs will be elected from the North and the East. If we remove four members, we are fully confident that the rest will support us,” he said. He was addressing a meeting in Teldeniya, Kandy.

The MP said that the government is repressing its citizens by increasing the price of essential goods as the unemployment rate is on the rise. He added that even though former President Maithripala Sirisena was informed beforehand about the Easter Sunday attacks, he did not notify the United National Party (UNP) about it.

Furthermore, the former President assumed duties after joining hands with the UNP. This led to some Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members leaving the party and joining the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). However, MP Sajith Premadasa was never known for any illegal activities during the former regime, he added.
