Batticaloa MC cleans drain taking wastewater to lagoon

Continuing the campaign to prevent the outbreak of dengue during the coming rainy season, the Batticaloa Municipal Council (MC) Dengue Prevention Task Force cleaned up a large drain taking wastewater to the lagoon at Poompugar, Batticaloa.

This cleaning campaign was done with the use of heavy machinery, and the deployment of over 50 labourers on Sunday.

Batticaloa Mayor Thiagaraja Saravanapavan, who came to visit the operation, said that he has requested Rs.110 million from Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath to renovate the damaged drains in the area.

The Mayor assured that before the rains arrive, all major drains would be cleared and renovated, and that those efforts would reduce the chances of a dengue outbreak.
