The Sri Lankan Embassy in Doha has been distributing dry food rations and essential items to Sri Lankan expatriates affected by the COVID-19 outbreak there, the Embassy stated in a press release, yesterday.

The Foreign Relations Ministry had already dispatched 6.7 metric tonnes (1,000 packs) of support kits, which were received by the Embassy on June 21. SriLankan Airlines collaborated with the Foreign Ministry in carrying these support kits on a cost-free basis by providing one of their special cargo flights for the delivery, the statement read.  The Embassy, with the assistance of Sri Lankan Associations in Doha, the Qatar Charity, Qatar Interior Ministry, and the local Foreign Relations Ministry, has so far distributed 5,000 packs of dry food rations, it added.

While distributing these essential items, the Sri Lankan Embassy and the Foreign Ministry, in close coordination with the Presidential Secretariat and the Government of Qatar, are also evacuating vulnerable groups of Sri Lankans in Doha, the Embassy stated.
