Man who robbed two banks arrested

A man who is said to have robbed two banks at Warakapola and Rambukkana has been arrested by the Police along with over Rs. 1.3 million stolen cash, several equipment used for the crimes and a live grenade.

The police had launched an investigation into a complaint lodged with the Warakapola Police over a bank robbery in Warakapola earlier this month where over Rs.1.8 million cash and gold jewellery worth Rs.28,500 had been stolen from the Development Bank in Warakapola.

Following investigations the Police had arrested the suspect at Enderamulla on Sunday and during the interrogation it was revealed that he had also broken into the Development Bank at Rambukkana in November last year.Police said the suspect had 13 pending warrants issued against him by courts islandwide.

The Police recovered Rs. 1,332,840 in cash, a live hand grenade, a mobile phone, 2 NICs, a CCTV hard disk and two drill machines.

The 32-year-old suspect, a resident of Wattala is to be produced in court.
