Be proud to be Lankan – Army Commander

Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that he was lucky to be born as Sri Lankan and be a member of the ‘Gajaba” regiment of the Sri Lanka Army.

He was speaking at a meeting at the Officer Career Development Centre in Buttala.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silvah received a copy of the conference on the Violent Extremism, Contemporary Trends and Defeating Challenges, which was held on December 19 and 20, 2019 when he visited the Buttala Centre for the first time after assuming duties as the Army Commander. The Army Commander said that ‘Professionalism’ is the main factor for the success of any Army.

“In your career as young officers, you should always try to develop your skills. The Sri Lanka Army is an institute based on Knowledge. We need officers who possess higher qualifications and great professional skills,” he said.

The Army Commander opened the two storey building for student officers. The ‘Open Air Wing’ at the officers mess was, too, opened by the Army Commander.

Security Forces Central Commander Major General Keerthi Costa, General Staff Director General Major General Pradeep Silva, Director General Ordnance Services, Major General Chandana Marasinghe, Director General Training Major General Nishantha Herath, Brigadier Training ARTRAC Brigadier Chandana Jayaweera, Deputy Commadant, Chief Instructor, and Senior Instructors among others participated.
