Strong wind, rough seas forecast

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre yesterday (21) issued an advisory forecasting strong wind and rough seas in the Western, Southern and South-eastern deep and shallow sea areas of the island.

The advisory is valid until 10.30 a.m. today (22).

It stated that the deep and shallow sea area from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, Matara and Hambantota will be rough at times as the wind will speed at (60) kmph at times.

“The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough at times. Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard,” it said.

The Meteorology Department said that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, North-western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern Provinces.

“Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Eastern and Uva Provinces after 2.00 pm,” the department said.

Wind will blow at (40-50) kmph at times over the island, particularly in the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, North-western provinces and in the Hambantota District.
