Würth signs MoU with VTA to support entrepreneurship of craftsmen

Würth Lanka a fully owned subsidiary of the multinational Würth Group has signed a memorandum of understanding to support an entrepreneurship course at the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka. Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG), a Development Finance Institution (DFI) shall also be providing financing for the venture.

The Certification of the course will be verified by the Delegation of German Industry (DGI) in Sri Lanka which comes under the only institution that can certify that training meets the German Vocational Training Standard. The total investment is expected to be Rs 75 million and will be free for applicants who give commitments that they will complete the entire course.Chief Delegate DGI Andreas Hergenröther said “we will make sure the training meets the demands of the industry. In Germany, craftsmen have very high regard.

In Sri Lanka, this is not so much.” There are plans to establish vocational training targeted at the logistics sector in coordination with the DGI.

Chairman, Vocational Training Authority Damitha Wickramasinghe said, “This is the first time in the history of Sri Lanka that we have a President who values the importance of vocational training. This concept of technopreneurs (technical entrepreneurs) is a brilliant idea.”

“It is coming from Germany which is a successful industrialized nation. Foreign assistance is always welcome, and we must thank them.”
