Visit to sacred sites in Anuradhapura:

President seeks blessings for country and people

No one can change the correct path the country is being steered through by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, said the Viharadhipathi of the historic Anuradhapura Lankarama Viharaya Ven. Ralapanawe Dhammajothi Thera.

The Ven. Thera who conveyed birthday greetings to the President, said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the only righteous leader who fearlessly presented his vision and policies on the political stage when all others were engaged in slandering each other.

The Chief Priest made this statement when President Rajapaksa visited the Lankarama Viharaya on Sunday morning and met with Ven. Ralapanawe Dhammajothi Thera.

There is much to learn from the President including the manner in which he shows respect to the religions through his actions, the Ven. Thera said, adding that during this short period since assuming office, the President has gained the respect and trust of the Maha Sangha and the people of this country.

Ven. Ralapanawe Dhammajothi Thera bestowed his blessings on the President and presented the state leader a memento during his visit.

President Rajapaksa paid homage to the Lankarama Chaithya and engaged in religious observances on the occasion of his birthday. Members of the public who had been at the Viharaya had also wished the President for his birthday.

The President also visited the historic Anuradhapura Isurumuniya Viharaya on an inspection tour and met with the Chief Incumbent Ven. Dr. Mathawa Sri Sumangala Thera. He had inquired from the Chief Incumbent regarding the history of the Viharaya and its future development activities.

President Rajapaksa placed a note in the visitor’s book at the Viharaya and the Chief Incumbent of the Isurumuniya Viharaya had presented the President several books containing the historic details of the temple. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa also visited the museum, pond and other monuments at this historic site. He then spoke with the public who were present at the Isurumuniya Raja Maha Viharaya. The devotees thanked the President for permitting the opening of religious places of worship for the public in accordance with the health guidelines.

On Saturday, the President paid homage to the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweliseya, Mirisawetiya and several other sacred sites in Anuradhapura on the occasion of his birthday to obtain the blessings of the Maha Sangha for the country and its people to emerge stronger following the COVID-19 pandemic. He also interacted with the devotees present at the sacred sites.
