Sithum Sanjana an excellent fielder

Fourth Year coloursman, opening bat and reserve wicket keeper Jayasuriya Liyanage Sithum Sanjana Silva of Holy Cross College, Kalutara who is a very fine close in fielder with a good arm helped his Alma Mater to beat the formidable Sri Sumangala College, Panadura in the pre quarters of all island under 19 cricket tournament by holding eight catches (six in the first innings and two in the second innings.) When the pre quarter game commenced Sumangalians were in the top of the table while Holy Cross College were in the eighth position. But any how Sumangalians beat Holy Cross in the limited over tournament one day game.

Holy Cross College played 14 matches this season and yet to play another three matches but it is doubtful due to the present situation in the country. They won four outright, seven on first innings, lost one on out right and lost two on first innings and the performances of Sithum carried a long way to achieve success. Through out the season he has scored 430 runs including three fifties and his highest score was 68 runs against Galahitiyawa Central. He showed his talent by holding 42 catches in the slips. Last year he held 30 catches and passed the 400 run mark. His cricket coach is Nimal Dabare while his assistant is Lakshitha Ranasinghe. The Master in Charge is Priyanath Samantha while the Prefect of Games is Rev. Fr. Ranmal Sevvanda. His first coach was Neville Weeraskera followed by Dinesh Chandimal.

He commenced his cricket career at the age of ten. It is a great achieve ment because as a small boy he used to play soft ball cricket during the interval with his class mates. The then Vice Principal Rev. Fr. Manoranjan and Rev. Fr. Jayashantha noticed his fielding and asked him to report for under 13 cricket practices. His first year in the under thirteen was in 2014 and in 2015 he played for the Kalutara District Team too. In 2016 and 2017 he played for the under 15 cricket team and in 2017 playing for Kalutara District their team were the Champions and he played for the Provincial Team of Western South Outer.

Then in 2017 and 2018 he played for the under 17 team and in 2016 he was taken to the first eleven cricket pool due to his fine fielding at any position. He played for the first eleven cricket team from 2017 to 2020 and in the last year he played for the Kalutara District Team.
