National coach to begin a new chapter in Sri Lankan football

“My target is to begin a new chapter in Sri Lankan football while revolutionizing the whole structure” was the message sent out by Amir Alagic the Sri Lankan National Football coach at a Press briefing held at

the Football Federation head quarters last Thursday.

The newly appointed coach Amir Alagic who hails from a popular football playing nation-Germany came out with several strategic plans for the future of Lankan Football, which is right now in doldrums, placing them 206 out of 211 countries in the FIFA rankings. According to Amir who was not happy with the set up here, has been entrusted with another post as the “Technical Director” of FFSL apart from being the head coach. He described the working plan lengthily to the Media, with several new postings while setting up new units at the governing body, which was lacking compared to other developed countries.

Amir elaborated on his new vision with several new projects involving several stake holders and the governing body. He further said that he wants to introduce the 4-3-3 playing format to the National team also from the grass root level which ultimately has become the winning combination in the

modern game. He emphasized the importance of commencing the grass root level stage encouraging more children taking to the game .

He has been entrusted with an immediate assignment to prepare the national team for the forth coming three World Cup qualifying matches against Korea (North and South) and Lebanon beginning from October 8 onwards on home and away basis. They have formed a pool of 18 players who will be camped at Baddegana Complex commencing from June22 The boys will first go for a PCR test along with the technical staff and then will be camped for 21 days there. The players will be granted a four day rest in between this period.

Anura de Silva, President of FFSL also briefed the media initially stating that we are fortunate as a country to revamp the game within few months whereas several other nations are struggling to control the Coronavirus pandemic.

Jaswer Omar, the General Secretary of FFSL too briefed the media on the Professional League which is to be inaugurated in November this year which is a must to raise the game to next level to unearth the hidden talents.

Football Federation of Sri Lanka(FFSL) became one of the first governing bodies to obtain the green light to start their National team practices along with Cricket and Rugby, by the Ministry of Sports along with the Ministry of Health.
