Deputy General Manager of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Mangala Randeniya said that 23 Sri Lankans residing and working overseas have died from COVID-19 as of yesterday.

Randeniya said the Sri Lankan Embassy in Sri Lanka is constantly looking into the welfare of Sri Lankans overseas. He said the SLBFE has taken measures to allocate funds for quarantine facilities for these Sri Lankans.

He said that 40,000 Sri Lankans have returned to Sri Lanka upon the expiry of their contract and non-renewal due to the current situation.
