Ministry calls for probe on Mahindananda’s ‘match-fixing’ allegations

Sports Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has asked the Secretary to the Ministry of Sports K.D.S. Ruwanchandra to take immediate action to investigate the controversial statement made by former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage claiming that 2011 Cricket World Cup final between Sri Lanka and India was fixed.

Former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has made this statement to a private television channel stating that the 2011 Cricket World Cup final which was held in India between Sri Lanka and India was fixed and that he has clear evidence to prove it.

Accordingly, the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has lodged a complaint with the Special Investigation Unit of the Prevention of Sport Offenses to investigate and act in accordance with the provisions of the Prevention of Sports Related Offenses Act No. 24 of 2019.

The Secretary also requested them to report to him every two weeks on the progress of these investigations.
