Final bill received by consumers is ‘correct’ one: CEB Chairman

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Chairman Vijitha Herath said on Wednesday that the ‘correct electricity bill’ is the final bill received by consumers, which has been calculated only taking into consideration the number of units used.

He added that the final bill has the correct update on meter readings, and that relief for the first 30 units have been given to consumers in each previous month without curtailing it.

Accordingly, consumers have received relief for 60 units when their electricity bills for the past two months were calculated. However, if someone has received a bill with high charges compared to the month of February, that is because of the increase of units in their bills as a result of an increase in domestic usage due to curfew, the CEB Chairman said.

Moreover, it has been also been revealed that even some businessmen are unable to pay their electricity bills due to decline of their income during the past few months. However, they do not need to panic, or fear the discontinuation of their power supply, as they can settle their bills through installments, he added.
