Sri Lanka Scouts launch COVID 19 relief project

The Sri Lanka Scout Association launched the Sri Lanka Scouts Care, COVID 19 Pandemic Relief Project for 500 scouts and families in 10 scout districts recently.

Dry rations, food items and medicines were provided for needy families of scouts and leaders under the project.

The project was funded by the World Organisation of the Scout Movement by the ‘Scouts Emergency Response Fund to Covid 19’.

Ten scout districts have been given 50 relief packs each and the Sri Lanka Scout Association thanked manufacturers for supplying the goods at short notice.

The project was officially launched at Sri Lanka Scout Headquarters by Chief Commissioner Major General Milinda Peiris and Deputy Chief Commissioner and World Scout Committee member Janaprith Fernando. District Commissioners, representatives and Rover Scouts and Leaders of Colombo and other Districts were present. The relief packs were dispatched to Kankesanturai, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Avissawella, Negombo, Wattala-JaEla, Homagama and Kalutara.

The districts and the deserving recipients were selected by a special committee of commissioners and the Project Team Leader was Kapila Kumara Headquarters Commissioner and the rest of the team consisted of Prabath Kularatna, M. F. S. Muheed, Dr.Manjula Sahabandu and Dr.Asanka Eriyawa. The District Commissioners who accepted the relief packshave hand them over to the selected scouts and families. The Sri Lanka Scout Association is grateful to WOSM and the Asia Pacific Regional Support Centre for the support given to the project.
