Committee to probe finance company leasing anomalies

Central Bank Governor, Prof. W.D. Lakshman, has appointed a three-member committee to probe the alleged irregular and unlawful activities at finance and leasing companies.

Director-General (Legal) to the President, Attorney-at-Law Hariguptha Rohanadheera, will chair the Committee; while Central Bank Legal and Compliance Department Director K. G.G. Sirikumara and Central Bank Non-Bank Financial Institutions Supervision Director J. P Gamlath are the other members. The committee had been entrusted with the task of probing illegal activities carried out by finance companies which are not registered under the Central Bank, and to propose steps that can be introduced to manage the issues identified.

The Central Bank Governor had informed the Committee to obtain the assistance of the experts in the banking and legal sectors while preparing reports within the stipulated time frame. The Committee is to submit its report within 14 days.
