CID ordered to enforce previous warrant issued on Mahendran, Punchihewa

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake yesterday ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to enforce the previous warrant issued on former Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran and Director of Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) Ajahn Punchihewa over the Central Bank Bond Scam .

On March 13, the Court of Appeal issued an order directing the Fort Magistrate’s Court not to issue any order against the suspects who appeared on that day. The Court of Appeal made this order considering the writ petitions filed by former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and other suspects challenging the warrant issued by Fort Magistrate’s Court on March 3.

The Court of Appeal also ruled that the Fort Magistrate should not to make any further orders in respect of petitioners until the Court of Appeal makes an order issuance of notices.

The suspects including former Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Perpetual Treasuries Limited Owner Arjun Aloysius , PTL chief dealer Kasun Palisena and PTL chairman Jeffrey Joseph Aloysius appeared before the court.

The Magistrate observed that he did not make any order in respect of the suspects to appear before the Court.

The Magistrate inquired from the CID as to why they failed to execute the previous warrant issued against the suspects who did not appear before the Court on March 13. The Magistrate observed that Arjun Mahendran and Ajahn Punchihewa had not filed any writ application before the Court of Appeal.

The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for September 2.
