Government to open up skies

BIA, Mattala to recommence int’l operations
‘New Normal’ security protocols at airports

The country is preparing to resume its flight operations from August 1 confident that the COVID -19 pandemic is under global control and with a strict health control regime.

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told the Daily News yesterday that plans are under way to consolidate airport operations from August 1.

Both the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake and Mattala airport will be opened from August 1, he said.

The Ministry has reached out to various stakeholders including, Aviation Authority, airlines, airports and ground-handling firms to lay the groundwork for restarting flights, Minister Ranatunga said.
