A rural development training centre has been set up in Yatiyantota to empower jobless people of the Sabaragamuwa Province.

The centre, which will facilitate residential training for 100 trainees at a time, has been set up at a cost of Rs. 30 million in Gomathuduwa, Yatiyantota by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council.

About 75 per cent of people of the province are rural and of them, a significant number are jobless.

It has been identified that the province has many opportunities for the unemployed people for them to come up as budding entrepreneurs using the widely available resources in their areas. For instance, they can earn a good income from Kitul trees, which are abundant throughout the province.
