Fifth year coloursman, all rounder, Vice Captain of the team right hand batsman and right arm leg spinner Seneth Vinvinu Weerakkody of Taxila Central College, Horana excelled as an allrounder in the just concluded first eleven cricket season. His twin brother Chamindu Ranvinu Weerakkody is the captain of the side.

His father a Physical Training Instructor at Bothalawa Junior School and Hewattha Junior School of Kalutara District W. A. L. K. Weerakkody noticing the talents of his twin sons encouraged them to take up to cricket and their Coach and Master in Charge of cricket is Kamal Sujeewa and his assistant is Gavinda Basnayake.

This season Seneth scored 630 runs with a top score of an unbeaten 101 runs versus Sri Rahula College, Kandy with three fifties and also he claimed 43 wickets with two five wicket hauls and the best analysis being 5 for 19 against Dharmaloka College, Kelaniya. Taxila played 15 matches and won two outright, seven on first innings, five on first innings and one drawn.

Taxila is one of the few schools in the island lucky enough to complete their Big Match and the One Dayer prior to the outbreak of Coronavirus. Their Annual Big match against their arch rivals Piliyandala Central was earlier known as “Battle of the Centralians” and later it was re named as “Battle of the Salpiti and Raigam” This was the 19th encounter in both formats and the Big Match ended in a draw while the Day One Game was won by Piliyandala Centralians. Taxila Principal Mrs. A. K. P. M. Jayathilake is very supportive to keep the game of cricket alive at their school.

Seneth commenced his cricket career in 2012 in the under 13 team and played in 2013 and 14 and in the following two years he played for the under 15 team and in 2017 and 2018 he represented the under 17 team. He was selected to the cricket team at the age of 15 in the second year and he played in five Big Matches and same number of One Dayers. Last year he passed the 500 run mark and captured 40 wickets.
