Postal Department discontinues medicine deliveries

The Postal Department discontinued the delivering of medicine from government hospitals and pharmacies to individuals, yesterday.

Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyarathna, in a press release, said, “When the coronavirus broke out, the Department took over the task of delivering medicine from state hospitals and pharmacies to relevant persons, at the request of the Presidential Task Force on Essential Services.”

“However, as the spread of the coronavirus in the country has been subdued, the Postal Department is resuming its regular duties; and, moreover, as deliveries related to the upcoming election would take priority, maintaining medicine deliveries would be difficult,” the statement said.

“Consumers, however, have made requests for the continuation of these services. Therefore, the department is looking into an alternative method for it,” the statement added.
