Software engineer who cheated people out of billions arrested

A software engineer, who had cheated people out of billions by posting fake advertisements about a lottery for luxury cars, has been arrested by Kurunegala Police, recently.

The suspect has stolen people's credit card information and withdrawn money from their accounts. He is a 35-year-old resident of Gurudeniya, Kandy. Police had got the help of one of the suspect's assistants to capture him.

Many high-ranking government officials and reputed businessman have fallen prey to this scam. One woman from Maspotha, Kurunegala, had spent Rs.3.7 million on the fake lottery, expecting to win a car worth Rs.28 million.

Investigations are continuing.
