India helps SL generate solar power

India has agreed to provide a US$ 100 million loan facility to set up solar power projects in Sri Lanka.

The funds will be provided through the Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM) to add renewable energy to the country’s energy sector in accordance with the “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendor” National Policy Framework, a statement on weekly Cabinet decisions said.

The Cabinet has approved the project with priority to install solar power systems on government buildings and to provide solar power systems to selected low income households in the Trincomalee, Moneragala, Anuradhapura and Hambantota Districts.
