Another beach cleaning drive conducted by the Navy in view of protecting and preserving pristine beaches in the island got off the ground at the Gintota beach with the participation of Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva on Saturday.

Due to the recent heavy rains experienced in the island, the water levels of the Gin Ganga had risen. As a result, branches of trees and garbage had been heaped on the Gintota beach.

The Navy is carrying out a number of coastal clean-up programmes to safeguard the beaches around the island, under the Green and Blue project.

As part of that initiative, the latest effort of that nature got off the ground on Saturday, with the active participation of Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.

The event was also attended by Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul and naval personnel attached to the command.
